About Us
We are a group of graduate students from the University of Massachusetts History Club and wanted to pay homage to one of our American heroes, Harriet Tubman. We created this website because we believe history fans and educators need an online resource that combines both facts and in-depth research about Harriet Tubman.
Our goal is to provide a resource that is interesting for beginners as well as for those interested in an in-depth understanding of the life of Tubman. We have relied on publications of historical events, biographies and documents to support evidence. We want to create a scholarly resource and enhance the availability of information to promote excellence in learning. We celebrate the contribution of African Americans to American History and embrace and promote intercultural competence.
Much of the information in this site is based on “Harriet Tubman, The Road to Freedom” by Catherine Clinton, “Scenes in the Life of Harriet Tubman” by Sarah Hopkins Bradford and “Bound for the Promised Land: Harriet Tubman: Portrait of an American Hero” by Kate Clifford Larson.
We hope you enjoy visiting our site. If you have any questions or need help in your history project, send us an e-mail at: umasshistoryclub@hotmail.com
